The Hong Kong and Macao SAR governments have temporarily closed their offices in Taiwan earlier. In Taipei, the Mainland Affairs Council stated today (20th) that the Hong Kong office will be adjusted from tomorrow (21st) to maintain necessary operations. The MAC pointed out that since July 2018, the Hong Kong government has repeatedly set unreasonable political conditions for the visas of office personnel and required the signing of the "First China Commitment Letter", which caused the Taiwan personnel to be unable to renew their stay or to take up their posts. The MAC pointed out that all activities of the Taiwan office in Hong Kong comply with laws and regulations and have never exceeded the scope of business functions. Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported earlier that almost all of the personnel dispatched by Taiwan’s agencies in Hong Kong returned to Taiwan today. Only the representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Hong Kong whose visas expired in July are in Hong Kong.
