During the current year, the Syrian Standards and Metrology Organization prepared 135 projects of national standards in various fields, according to the organization's annual report.
The report showed that these specifications were distributed among 50 food standards, 24 engineering standards, 20 metrology standards, 23 textile standards, 7 chemical specifications, and 11 quality standards.
The report indicated that during the current year, 102 national standards were approved and circulated to all relevant authorities, while the authority issued 80 conformity certificates in parallel with the follow-up and withdrawal of samples for companies that obtained the conformity badge.
In a statement to SANA’s representative, the Director General of the Authority, Eng. Mohsen Hallaq, explained that the Authority is following up coordination with the International Standardization Organization “ISO” and the International Food Codex “Codex” and participating in their activities by attending virtual meetings of international technical committees and studying international standards projects to benefit from them to develop national standards specifications To be in conformity with international harsh specifications and to facilitate the flow of national goods that obtained the Conformity Badge in global markets.
Hallaq indicated that a work plan for the years 2021 until 2023 was signed for a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of standards and metrology and for mutual recognition of conformity assessment results in the areas of granting conformity certificates and test results between the Syrian Arab Standards and Metrology Organization and the Iranian Standards Organization.
