The police arrested yesterday (Friday) a Hapoel Haifa fan and a Maccabi Haifa fan on suspicion of causing damage to property in two different incidents due to the rivalry between the teams' fans.
Last week, a video was published on social media in which unknown people burned flags and a lot of equipment belonging to Maccabi Haifa fans that had been stolen a few days earlier from the fans' warehouse.
In the meantime, the investigators of the Haifa police station began intensive investigative operations and yesterday the patrol officers arrested the suspect of committing the act, a 33-year-old resident of Haifa. The police asked to extend his detention at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, and his detention was extended until Sunday.
In another event, masked men arrived at a business owned by the family of a Hapoel Haifa fan.
The suspects vandalized a lot of equipment, attacked the owner of the place and broke his cell phone when he tried to take pictures of them.
At the end of the investigation, the police arrested a suspect in the act tonight, a 30-year-old resident of Haifa, and will ask today to extend his detention at the Haifa Magistrate's Court.
The police spokeswoman: "The Israel Police takes crimes of this type very seriously and will continue to act with all the tools at its disposal to bring to justice those who commit crimes related to sports, and this while harming public security."
