The U.S. Senate last night (Tuesday) approved the appointment of Judge Amy Connie Barrett to the United States Supreme Court.
Approval of the appointment of Barrett, President Donald Trump's candidate for the post, is expected to tilt the Supreme Court even further to the right for many years to come, with a majority of six conservative judges versus just three liberals.
To date, no candidate for the Supreme Court has been approved by the Senate so close to the presidential election, with more than 58 million people already voting in the by-elections, ahead of November 3.
Trump has said many times that he wants to vote on her candidacy in case the presidential election decision comes to the Supreme Court.
The speed with which Barrett's 48-year-old appointment was approved has caused deep disagreement between Democrats and Republicans, who hold a majority of 53 senators out of a hundred and are expected to vote almost unanimously in favor, including those who objected at the start of the process to the Conservative judge's candidacy.
Barrett will succeed Liberal Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away last month.

Democrats in the Senate and some Republicans fear Vice President Mike Pence will attend the vote, after at least five of his advisers have been diagnosed positive for the corona virus.
Barrett is expected to attend a dramatic hearing on Nov. 10 that will address a petition by the Trump administration and Republicans to repeal former President Barack Obama's health care reform.
The law, known as the Obama-Cold War, has helped millions of Americans purchase health insurance and protected those suffering from health problems.
Opponents of Barrett's appointment fear it will infringe on women's rights, LGBTs, the environment, immigration, voting and other issues.
