The Walt Disney Company of America announced that it will lay off about 28,000 of its employees as its main theme park in California remains closed during the Corona virus pandemic.
Reuters quoted the company as saying in a statement that about two-thirds of the workers facing layoffs are part-time workers, noting that the company's Disneyland theme park is still closed by order of California officials.
"We made the very difficult decision to start reducing the workforce in our parks," Josh Damaro, head of Disney's parks unit, said in a statement.
Companies and the US economy in general are facing recession and contraction affected by the Corona pandemic and the policies pursued by the Donald Trump administration.
