Theater, film and television actor Alex Peleg passed away at the age of 83. Peleg, a native of Bucharest, immigrated to Israel at the age of 13, studied in the Green Village and served in the Central Command and the Armored Forces.
He studied acting at the Habima Drama School and studied acting in Paris.
From the 1960s he began to play on the stage of the National Theater, and although he also played in theaters other repertoires he was mostly identified as a stage actor.
Peleg has acted in a variety of plays including "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", "Acting Actress", "Miss and Death", "Kaddish for Naomi", "Antigone" and more on stage, "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" and "Training the Unruly" at the Haifa Theater, " The Father, and "Everyone Was My Son" at the Be'er Sheva Theater, "Uncle Vanya" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" In Beit Lessin, and "Three Sisters" in the Herzliya Ensemble. He put on solo shows, and also played on the big and small screen.
Among his roles in film and television: "Masada", "Golda", "Kasztner", "The Institute", "The Return from India" by Menachem Golan, and "Lost and Found" by Shavei Gavison.
In 2013 he starred in Tom Shoval's film, "The Youth," and in 2015 he played the character of the older Amos Oz in Natalie Portman's film "A Tale of Love and Darkness."
In 2017 he starred in Eric Rothstein's film "Antenna".
In 2016, he won the Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement, an award given to it by the Israel Artists' Association for his contribution to Israeli culture, and joined other awards he won during his glorious career: the Meir Margalit Award (1989), the Moshe Halevi Tel Aviv Municipality Award (1996) ), The Klachkin Prize on behalf of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (1998) and the Rosenblum Prize for Lifetime Achievement on behalf of the Tel Aviv Municipality (2007).
He is survived by a wife, two daughters and grandchildren.
