During those few weeks, he was able to print top secret documents which he then offered to sell to what he thought was a foreign government agent but who turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.

Jareh Sebastian Dalke communicated through a dark web site created by Russia's main foreign intelligence service, according to an investigation report filed in court by the FBI.

He asked for $85,000 in exchange for all the documents.

He obtained three payments in cryptocurrency, one of which was worth $11,422.

He was arrested in Denver, Colorado as he prepared to hand over the documents and faces the death penalty or life in prison.

In the second case, a transgender military doctor, Jamie Lee Henry, and his wife, Anna Gabrielian, a Russian-speaking specialist in anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins University, were charged on Thursday with attempting to sell confidential information about the health of US military and US officials to Russia.

The couple have been charged with criminal association and several counts in connection with the unlawful disclosure of private medical information.

These charges can result in up to 20 years in prison.

If, in the first case, the accused says he acted for financial reasons and in order to express his dissatisfaction with American society, the couple say they acted out of their pro-Russian feelings.
