Three seriously injured at Wartaweil: the car flies several meters

Three people were seriously injured in an accident on New Year's Eve near Herrsching.
Many questions about the course of events are still open.

- In a serious accident on New Year's Eve around 11:20 p.m. near Wartaweil, three people were seriously injured.
The road was closed for around five hours.
According to the first findings of the Herrsching police, a 26-year-old, a 33-year-old and a 63-year-old were driving a Ford from Herrsching towards Fischen. For a previously unknown cause, the vehicle got onto the shoulder at the Wartaweil level, crossed the lane and then shot up an embankment on the left side of the lane. “In the further course the vehicle collided head-on with a tree and rolled down the side of the embankment.” The car remained on the roof at the side of the road. The car had apparently taken off on the embankment and flown over a stream.
The two men were trapped in the vehicle. The young woman had been half thrown out of the wreck, she was trapped with one arm under the wreck and her legs in the vehicle. The Herrsching fire brigade, with 22 men on duty, freed all three with rescue equipment and lifting bags. The vehicle also had to be secured against slipping because it was on the embankment, explained commander Daniel Pleyer. Fire fighters opened the wreck from two sides with scissors and spreader so that emergency doctors and paramedics could quickly reach the injured. After around 40 minutes, all three were freed - that was quick in view of the completely deformed vehicle. The three inmates were brought to the surrounding hospitals by ambulance services and a helicopter.
Some questions about the course of events are still unanswered.
"Due to various ambiguities, which are not discussed in detail for investigative reasons, the public prosecutor ordered an expert opinion," said the police.
It is therefore unclear whether the occupants were buckled up - rather unlikely given the situation - or whether alcohol was involved.
The police did not provide any information about the origin of the inmates.
The scene of the accident stretched over several hundred meters.
An expert examined every detail during the night, which explains the long closure of the route for around five hours.
In addition to the Herrsching fire brigade, those from Fischen were also on duty, as was the rescue service with numerous ambulances and several emergency doctors.
