The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announced today that the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have successfully completed their tasks, indicating that their withdrawal from his country will begin within two days.
In a speech to parliament members, the Kazakh president said that "the withdrawal of peacekeeping units will begin within two days and this will not take more than 10 days," stressing that "the attempt to carry out a coup in Kazakhstan has failed... In general, the acute phase of the anti-terrorist operation has been passed and has become The situation in all regions is stable.”
Tokayev pointed out that his country's request to the Collective Security Treaty Organization to send peacekeeping forces was within the framework of the law, and otherwise it would have been possible to lose control of the city of Almata and other areas of the country.
It is noteworthy that in accordance with the decision of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization adopted on January 6, the organization's peacekeeping forces have been sent to Kazakhstan for a limited period of time until ensuring the stability and normalization of the situation.
The peacekeeping forces included units of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
To that, Tokayev signed today a decree appointing Alikhan Ismailov as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
This came after deputies of the Kazakh parliament approved a proposal by the president to appoint Ismailov as prime minister of the country.
Ismailov served as the first deputy prime minister in the previous government that Tokayev sacked last week.
