Tokyo Olympics: the foilists in gold, Florent Manaudou in silver, the anger of French boxing, an Italian arrow ... A colorful Sunday August 1st

2021-08-01T17:11:25.163Z

After a prolific Saturday (6 medals), France adds two new medals with fencing and swimming, but leaves with a zero

Outside, the sun is playing hide and seek with the clouds.

Blue, gray, blue, gray, we don't know where to turn.

In Tokyo, events and colors are also multiplying.

However, money, the French delegation tasted both this Sunday.

It is three times less than the day before, but it is no less beautiful.

Foilists see life in pink

They were expected at the end of the track since the individual event.

Enzo Lefort, Erwann Le Péchoux and Julien Mertine successfully raised the blue-white-red flag in the Makuhari Messe, the hall where the fencing events were held until Sunday.

Victorious without doubting Egypt, then Japan falling from Italy, our foilists give a lesson to the Russians in the final (45-28) and take their revenge on Rio 2016. The tricolor fencing thus ends its course with 5 medals .

🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇Because they were heroic and because it's always so special, savor the fifth Marseillaise, offered by the French foilists 😍

Manaudou sees life in blue

After two and a half years of retirement and the last difficult weeks, the 2012 Olympic champion took 2nd place in the 50m freestyle.

“I am proud to have managed to take advantage of the moment.

I wanted to do this, I succeeded.

When I came back to swimming I said I wanted to have fun.

I got a little lost this year on the way, because my perfs were not pissed off.

I'm not doing an incredible race in terms of time, but that proves that enough is enough and you shouldn't ask yourself too many questions.

The other side of the coin is that Laure's little brother gives France its only swimming charm.

Tokyo🥈, Rio🥈, London🥇

For boxing, "black is black"

It is the only color that can match our four boxers and their staff.

Black, like their Japanese record while in Rio, the sky was all blue with 6 medals including two in gold (Tony Yoka and Estelle Mossely).

Black also like the anger of Mourad Aliev, last representative, after the decision of the referee who disqualified him.

“This fight reflects what the French experienced during the tournament,” says Brahim Asloum, Olympic champion in 2000. At no time did I mention thefts.

There are errors, it is human error.

A fight can always switch to one side or the other.

But there are some incomprehensible things.

So if I don't understand, I imagine the general public won't either.

Green-white-red, Italy celebrates athletics

A feeling is already good. So when the Italians had the opportunity to add another, they were not shy. The two transalpine heroes of the day are called Lamont Marcell Jacobs and Gianmarco Tamberi. Almost simultaneously they offered gold in athletics for their country, respectively in the 100 meters and in the high jump. The first succeeds the legend Usain Bolt and becomes the first European in Olympic gold over the distance since 1992. The second shared his title with the Qatari Mutaz Barshim, the two boys not being able to decide with a bar of 2 m 37 , for one of the beautiful emotions of this Olympiad. Grazie mille, signori!

For the rest of the news this Sunday, we will also remember the historic triple leap of the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, who broke the world record for the specialty (15 m 67), the five gold medals (and the two world records) of American swimmer Caleb Dressel. Also in the water there are also the seven medals of Australian Emma McKeon. And finally the blue volleyball players who take the quarter despite their defeat on the wire against Brazil. In short, another beautiful day is coming to an end.
