The Clermont awakening

After two defeats in three games, Clermont bounces back and now ranks fourth in the championship.

The commitment, the desire, the aggressiveness... everything came together this Sunday evening on the side of the Auvergne players.

Jono Gibbes' men showed great realism, especially in the first half.

They entered the opposing box twice and scored two tries.

And the first comes very early.

After several passes from left to right, Penaud receives the ball and does a good job horizontally and serves his captain Iturria who jumps to score the try at the end of the line (5th).

Clermont's realism does not stop there.

The Auvergnats push and Simone scores her first try in the Top 14 by resisting the last tackle before the line.

The most striking thing about this meeting is the combativeness shown by Clermont.

A deserved victory which allows the Clermontois to relaunch themselves in this championship.

Intractable Pisson

Plisson met his old team this Sunday evening and showed no mercy.

The number 10 of Clermont disgusted his former teammates with skill and accuracy.

He scored the three decisive penalties late in the game.

While Clermont had just been equalized, Plisson takes responsibility and transforms a first penalty (74th).

16-13.

The scorer does not stop there and goes on with a converted penalty 45 meters to the left of the posts (19-13) before concluding with another 25 meters to the left of the posts (22-13)!

And as a symbol, it is he who releases the ball and ends the meeting.

FLOPS

La Rochelle's lack of discipline

The Stade Rochelais, yet undefeated so far, has not shown the same face as since the start of the season.

And this first defeat is partly due to a lack of discipline and precision.

Like this yellow Sazy (31st).

The second line of La Rochelle was in an offside position on his line but he paid especially for the indiscipline of his team with four faults on the same action.

We can also note some errors, especially in touch.

In the 37th minute, the Rochelais miraculously recovered the ball after losing two shots in a row thanks to a forward from Ojovan.

Fortunately, Leyds clears and allows his people to breathe.

But because of these faults, they were often surprised by counterattacks from Clermont throughout the game.

Thomas too discreet

We were expecting a nice shock Penaud-Thomas on the wings, finally this distance duel did not take place.

Like his team, Teddy Thomas lacked commitment and desire.

The winger remained almost ghostly throughout the game.

Opposite, Damian Penaud delivered a high-level performance.

It is he who does a superb job across before serving his captain Iturria who jumps to register the test at the end of the line from the fifth minute.

Even defensively, the Frenchman from Clermont was extremely solid.

A great performance for him unlike his evening opponent Teddy Thomas.
