Tops / Flops Reims-Monaco: Great first saving for Matazo, Kevin Volland absent

2021-05-12T04:52:19.520Z

Eliot Matazo's first saving goal, Mbuku's activity and Volland's ghostly performance… Find the Tops and Flops of this match between Stade de Reims and AS Monaco (0-1).

Tops

Eliot Matazo, a first saving

The young Monegasque scored his first professional goal on Sunday (20th).

And in a nice way, even if the Reims defense was poor on this action.

He is at the origin of the against and has the merit of continuing his effort by realizing a model of appeal.

He could even have afforded a double five minutes later if he had not tangled the brushes after brilliantly erasing the goalkeeper (25th).

Aligned in a more offensive position than usual, in the left lane, Matazo did rather well.

Better than the other offensives anyway.

Aurélien Tchouameni, clean and efficient

One of the few has evolved almost at his level.

Still aligned with Fofana in the midfield, Aurélien Tchouameni again delivered a good overall performance, combining defensive and offensive work.

He was still in difficulty when Reims densified his midfield from the 30th minute.

His very vertical passes, one of his primary qualities, suffered.

After the hour of play, he floated again.

He recovered a good ball very high before launching Volland who spoiled the opportunity to make the break and take cover (79th).

A serious copy, without shine but without smudging either.

Nathanaël Mbuku, rare agitator from Reims

In a team not necessarily concerned at the start of the match, Mbuku stood out rather well.

Even without having scored or provoked huge chances, he was restless and his vivacity annoyed the opposing defense, especially Disasi, the less mobile of the Monegasque rearguard.

A good match in a formation which sometimes lacked involvement and creativity.

Flops

Kevin Volland, ghostly

The German hardly existed in this meeting.

Very little used, he has absolutely no influence in the game of his team, nor on a frankly friable Reims defense.

He could have caused a penalty but the VAR has clearly shown that he had not suffered a fault from Faes (45th).

He served poorly Gelson Martins, whose movement was perhaps not perfect, who could have sheltered his family ten minutes from the end (79th).

Clearly not the best performance of his season.

Reims defense on goal

The locals, 13th in the standings, and already almost saved mathematically, did not show much interest in this part which could nevertheless have validated their retention in the Elite.

A lack of involvement which resulted in the opening of Monaco's scoring.

The marking of the Champagne rearguard should be shown in all football schools, it was so grotesque.

Matazo quickly picked up the ball and shifted Ben Yedder to the right side.

Yet four against two, the Rémois managed the feat of letting Matazo slip behind their backs who only had to push the ball into the net after the offering of the French international (20th).
