Professional cyclist Primoz Roglic continues to control the 74th Tour of Spain confidently. The 29-year-old Slovenian finished second in the 18th Vuelta stage from Colmenar Viejo to Becerril de la Sierra over 177.5 kilometers on Thursday, defending the leader's red jersey. Overall, the former ski jumper is now 2:50 minutes ahead of Alejandro Valverde. The world champion from Spain pushed third-placed Colombian Movistar team-mate Nairo Quintana (+3: 31) in third place.
The 18th day section with four mountains of the first category won the Colombian Sergio Higuita. The only 22-year-old from Medellin sat down about 37 kilometers from the finish line of his pursuers and celebrated with the stage victory the biggest success of his career.
On Friday the sprinters get a new chance. On the 165.2 km of the 19th stage from Avila to Toledo is only a rise of the third category. The decision in the overall standings should fall on Saturday at the mountain finish in Plataforma de Gredos, before the Vuelta ends on Sunday with a flat stage in Madrid.
