(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 27 - US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
If his appointment is confirmed by the Senate, Barrett, a conservative Catholic, will take the place of the liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in recent days.
Trump called for confirmation quickly and urged Democrats not to hinder this path.
Barrett's hearing before the Senate justice commission is expected to begin on October 12, with confirmation that it could come before the presidential election on November 3. The reaction of the Democratic candidate for the White House Joe Biden who has launched an appeal in the Senate for the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court not take place before the presidential elections on 3 November.
