The gradual return of French people who left to join jihadist groups in Syria continues.
Two women were deported from Turkey with their children and jailed in France this week, according to Nice-Matin and Mediapart.
They had joined Syria, then the Islamic State, more than seven years ago.
Henen Ben Chaieb, a 32-year-old woman from Nice, and Selma Tahar Aouidate, 29, from Roubaix, were indicted on Tuesday and Thursday in Paris respectively for "criminal terrorist association".
This return is neither at the request of France, nor at the request of the two French women.
It responds to the "Cazeneuve protocol": this cooperation agreement, named after the former Minister of the Interior Bernard Cazeneuve, was signed in 2014 by the two countries to organize the return to the territory of the French jihadists who are between the hands of the Turkish authorities.
Since 2014, nearly 300 people have been returned to France, like these two women, from Turkey, under this protocol.
According to Mediapart, the two women were trying to "hide in Turkey" when they were arrested near the Turkish-Syrian border.
Their children, some of whom were born on the spot, were entrusted to Social Assistance for Children (ASE), as is the case for all ghosts of jihad.
Also indicted for "subtraction of a parent from his legal obligations"
Henen Ben Chaieb had left France with ten members of his family on September 26, 2014. A grandmother, her three children and their spouses as well as four grandchildren (aged 6 months, 22 months, 4 years and 6 years) had left that day from Nice in two rental cars.
As for Selma Tahar Aouidate, who had taken two children born in France, she is also indicted for "evasion of a parent from his legal obligations", according to the judicial source.
The young woman is the sister of Fodil Tahar Aouidate, known as “Abou Mariam”, one of the eleven French people sentenced to death in Iraq in 2019 and still detained there.
The eldest of his siblings, Fodil Tahar Aouidate, 35, had come to Syria with his sister and 21 other members of their family.
Described as a “fighter” of the Islamic State group, he was known to intelligence for his links with Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the coordinator of the attacks of November 13, 2015.
Two of the sisters of the family were convicted in France for "financing terrorism", because they, according to the court, sent 15,000 euros to Syria with family allowances received by members of their family after their departure.
