Two sexist murders uncovered after the alleged suicide of the aggressors

In 24 hours, two men have murdered their partners in the house they shared, they have left there and committed suicide.

It happened this past Sunday in Benidorm and this Monday morning in Palencia.

So far, those are the main hypotheses of the investigations.

In both, the deceased became alleged aggressors when the agents found the bodies of the women when they went to notify the home of their deaths.

To these two alleged murders due to sexist violence is added that of a third woman, in Malaga, with the confession that she was her partner and whose body was found by the police last Friday after six months disappeared.

In Palencia, the last known, the Police arrived at a home on Avenida de los Reyes Católicos because the 36-year-old man whose body they had found early this Monday next to the train tracks lived there, which had been thrown away, in an area close to the city center.

The door of that house was opened by a seven-year-old girl, and upon entering, the agents found another child, about two, and their mother, 32, in another room, murdered with signs of strangulation.

Now, the minors —the oldest, daughter of the victim, and the youngest, of the victim and the alleged aggressor—, have been left in the care of the maternal grandmother.

As in most murders due to sexist violence, in this case there were no prior complaints —three out of four murdered women had not done so, for fear of the aggressor, the consequences for their sons and daughters, or not being believed—, although there were. An investigation had been opened in 2019. As confirmed by the Government sub-delegation in Castilla y León, the police investigated a possible case of sexist violence that year;

when she did not file a complaint, the case was dismissed.

Something that happened in a similar way in the case of Malaga.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman whose body the police found last Friday buried in the San Luis industrial estate in Malaga after six months disappeared, she had denounced her aggressor, about 40 years old, a decade ago.

Subsequently, she withdrew the complaint, as also happens on many occasions, for the same reasons why women do not dare to file a complaint in the first place and because of the very functioning of the circle of sexist violence.

The aggressor, who she has confessed after her arrest, will go to court in the next few hours.

And in Benidorm, the man who allegedly murdered his partner and then committed suicide was 73 years old and there was no previous complaint about him.

He died this Sunday night by invading the opposite lane just as he was crossing a crane truck.

He collided with him on the N-332 road, at the height of Vila Joiosa (Alicante).

Once identified as a resident of that city, the Local Police officers went to her home to report the death and found the 68-year-old woman lying on the floor, in the living room, with two stab wounds. on the chest.

Both, natives of the Basque Country, had been living in the Alicante town for more than five years.

The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed this murder as a sexist crime.

Different ages, different situations and different contexts that within the field of sexist violence follow common patterns.

The suicide of the aggressors, as in these two cases, has been attempted or completed in half of the 30 confirmed crimes that have been registered so far in 2022: nine succeeded, five tried.

Around four out of ten sexist aggressors attempt or succeed in committing suicide after murdering their partners or ex-partners, according to data from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence for the last decade.

The Government Delegation against gender violence has confirmed through its Twitter account that more data on the murders is being collected.

If those of Palencia and Malaga are confirmed, there would already be 33 women victims of sexist violence in Spain this 2022 and 1,163 since 2003, when these crimes began to be recorded;

and the number of minor orphans would rise to 22.
