UEFA has forced the Ukrainian national team to change its official jersey, which is considered 'political' due to its reference to Crimea.

UEFA has imposed a change in the Ukrainian shirt on the eve of the opening of the European football tournament, considering the reference to Crimea as "political", with the mention "Glory to our heroes" which aroused protests from Russia.

"After a deeper analysis", this slogan chanted during the anti-Russian popular uprising in Maidan in 2014 is "clearly political in nature" and "must therefore be withdrawn (...) in view of UEFA's official matches", has made known the sports organization, as reported by the AFP.

Uefa in Ukraine, via slogans but the map on the shirt remains

 - Via the slogan "of a political nature", but the drawn map can remain. UEFA has made more precise the indication addressed to Ukraine for the modification of the official jersey for the European football championships, which aroused protests from Russia. "After further analysis", the football organization said, the slogan that appears "inside the collar" of the Ukrainian shirt is "clearly of a political nature" and "must therefore be withdrawn in view of the official UEFA matches". UEFA, on the other hand, has validated the map of Ukraine that appears on the shirt and includes Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, as well as the eastern territories controlled by pro-Russian separatists, recalling that it corresponded to the internationally recognized borders of the nation.

Moscow satisfied with Uefa decision on Ukraine

- Moscow said it was satisfied that UEFA has partially accepted its request that Ukraine remove a slogan deemed "political" - against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict - from its jersey for the 'European. "Be sporting heroes and you will have glory: it is not with nationalistic slogans that you will honor your homeland", said the spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zakharova, reacting on Telegram to the decision of the European football organization.
