Twenty-six people were killed in the crash of a military transport plane that crashed Friday during a training flight in eastern Ukraine, according to a latest report.
The transport plane crashed at around 8:50 p.m. local time (7:50 p.m. GMT) two kilometers from the Chougouïv military airport, according to the state service for emergency situations.
It ignited after the crash and the fire could not be extinguished until an hour later.
According to preliminary information, the commander of the crew who flew the aircraft reported a failure of one of the engines seven minutes before the crash and requested an emergency landing, Ukrainian security services said in a statement. (SBU).
Ukrainian President Zelensky ordered the “urgent establishment of a government commission to elucidate the circumstances and causes” of the disaster.
Only one passenger survived the accident, the young man suffers from a concussion but his life is not in danger.
