Despite personnel problems, the German U21 national team celebrated an important success on the way to the 2023 European Football Championship in Georgia and Romania.
The defending champion won the qualifier against Latvia 4-0 (3-0) in Aachen on Friday and thus took the lead in Group B. In front of 7718 spectators in Tivoli, captain Jonathan Burkhardt (25.
Aachen - Minute/43.), Ansgar Knauff (26.) and Malik Tillman (75.) scored the goals for the team of coach Antonio Di Salvo.
Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu saved a penalty kick against Latvian Lukass Vapne in the 66th minute.

The German team, who won the first leg in Latvia 3-1, are leaders with 18 points.
On Tuesday (5 p.m. / ProSieben Maxx), the German U21s, in which around a dozen players were injured or ill, will play for pursuers Israel.
Only the group winners and the best of nine runners-up directly buy the ticket for the finals in summer 2023. The other runners-up have to go to the playoffs.
The games against Hungary and in Poland will follow for Germany in June.
