Retail sales rose surprisingly in September in the United States, notably driven by increases in energy prices, according to Commerce Department figures released on Friday.

Total sales rose to $ 624.5 billion, up 0.7% from August, when analysts expected a decline of 0.3%.
August sales were also revised upwards, showing an increase of 0.9% instead of the 0.7% previously estimated.
