New attempt to stop the anti-Israel drift among the Reform and Conservative movements in the United States:
A new organization called the "Coalition of Zionist Rabbis" appealed to the institutions of rabbis and leaders of all Jewish streams demanding the inclusion of Zionist values, love of Israel, Klal Israel and support for the State of Israel. To institutions.
The coalition, which has hundreds of rabbis from all streams, held a founding convention in Washington last month.
President Yitzhak Herzog sent a videotaped greeting to the conference, and his brother, Israeli Ambassador to Washington Michael (Mike) Herzog, spoke at the event.
At the conference, it was decided to demand that the institutions that train the next generation of the leadership of American Jewry include support for Israel as a threshold condition.
A letter sent in recent days to the six leading institutions reads: "The future leaders of the Jewish people must show empathy for their brothers and sisters in Israel, especially when they are attacked by a terrorist organization whose stated goal is to kill Jews and destroy the Jewish state."
In a conversation with Israel Today, the organization's head, Conservative Rabbi Stuart Weinblatt, said that what motivated him to establish the organization was a petition of one hundred Reform and Conservative students who in the midst of Operation Wall Guard attacked Israel.
"We have a problem if future leaders attack Israel while Hamas fires 4,500 missiles at it, and we have a problem if students of rabbinate who support Israel are afraid to express their opinions.
