At the French Open, they sensationally secured the title. At the US Open in New York, German doubles Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies did not go beyond the semi-finals.

The French Open winners Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies have lost in the double semifinal of the US Open against the Spaniard Marcel Granollers and the Argentine Horacio Zeballos. By 6: 7 (2: 7), 6: 7 (5: 7) they missed their second Grand Slam finals this year.

Granollers and Zeballos showed few weaknesses, served safely and had to fend off a breakball only at the score of 3: 3. Krawietz and Mies did not make much mistakes at their own serve, until they started wobbling in the tiebreaker.

So also in the second set: There were no break opportunities, so the tiebreak had to decide again. And again Granollers and Zeballos prevailed, they turned their first match ball after 1:40 hours.

Despite the defeat, the duo in New York made a big step towards qualifying for the ATP Finals in London in mid-November. In the current ranking, Krawietz and Mies are in fourth place. The best eight doubles of the year qualify.

In June, Krawietz and Mies surprisingly won the French Open in Paris. For the first time as a German doubles since 1937. In Wimbledon in July were Krawietz and Mies already failed in the first round.

The only German double that could win the US Open remains thus Gottfried von Cramm and Henner Henkel. The duo had the title in 1937. Philipp Petzschner won in 2011 alongside the Austrian Jürgen Melzer.
