US police today arrested dozens of people and used tear gas to disperse protests that broke out to condemn the murder of an African-American citizen, Downright, by a police officer in Minnesota.
Fox News reported that hundreds of people gathered in front of the Brooklyn Police Department, violating the ban imposed due to the Corona pandemic, and demanding justice for the 20-year-old Wright, who was shot dead by a policewoman, noting that the authorities used tear gas and grenades to disperse the demonstrators.
Authorities imposed curfews in three counties in the state following the killing of Wright by police at the Brooklyn Center last Sunday.
The police shot and killed Wright after traffic stopped in a suburb of Minneapolis, and camera footage showed three officers after they gathered near his parked car in an attempt to arrest him, followed by a shooting that killed him.
Wright’s death sparked protests in the state where a similar incident occurred last year, which sparked a wave of protests under the slogan “Black Lives Matter” across the United States and abroad after the killing of African American George Floyd by police.
