The US trade deficit balance rose sharply in the penultimate month of last year as imports of goods increased to a record level.
Reuters quoted the US Department of Commerce as saying in a statement today that the trade deficit jumped last November by 19.4 percent to $80.2 billion, despite economists expecting it to reach $77.1 billion.
Imports of goods in the United States increased by 5.1 percent to $254.9 billion, while exports fell 1.8 percent to $155.9 billion.
