(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 23 - In 2020 the US experienced the highest increase in homicides since the number of homicides began to be registered nationwide in 1960: + 29%.
The data will be released on Monday but are already available on the FBI website, as the New York Times writes.
The previous record was 12.7% in 1968, the crucial year of the struggles for civil rights.
The national crime rate - the number of homicides per 100,000 inhabitants - is still one third below that of the early 1990s.
The data for the current year indicate a slower increase compared to 2020. (ANSA).
