USA: Realtor Pays Food Debt Of Over 400 Children

2019-10-15T13:59:30.162Z

Hundreds of students in a US town have been in debt for their lunch. A real estate agent found this intolerable - and quickly took over the bill for 400 children.

The numbers disturbed the US estate agent Andrew Levy: About 400 children in schools in his city Jupiter in Florida had been in debt because of their lunch. "I thought that was crazy, kids should not learn hungry," he told CNN.

The students were, according to a parents request with nearly 950 dollars in the chalk. When Levy heard about the problem, he decided to pay the costs. He wanted to prevent the indebted students in the future no longer get a hot lunch.

However, that did not seem particularly sustainable. He announced that, according to the broadcaster, they would set up a donation website so that "debts for lunch never accumulate, so children never have to worry about a hot meal and parents never have to pay the bill."

The response to his project was reportedly large. Around 200 people would have assured their support via Facebook alone. Thus, the donation project could get not only the food debt of the students in his city under control.

A spokeswoman for the district told CNN that the food debt of some 180,000 students across the district is currently around $ 50,000.

Food money in Germany - applications too complicated?

In Germany, parents can request, among other things, food for their child through the education and participation package. Associations such as the German Child Protection Agency find the applications too complicated. Studies have shown that the money does not arrive with many claimants.
