This week, in Buenos Aires territory, some
260,000
residents had their vaccination schedules expired. Inoculated with
Sputnik V, Sinopharm or AstraZeneca
, some received their turn in recent days, while others are still anxiously looking at their phones and checking their mailboxes. They are those who hope to complete the vaccination against the coronavirus and face the possible wave of infections of the
Delta variant
with the coverage that they guarantee: efficiency close to 100% to prevent serious disease and death and reduction, between 70 and 90% , of
symptomatic disease.
According to official data from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health, until this week there were
87 thousand people vaccinated with Sputnik V
with their expired schemes;
more than
90 days have
passed
since they received the first dose.
On the other hand, there were another
110,000 people
vaccinated with
AstraZeneca
who also met the waiting time to receive the second dose;
in this case, 56 days.
To all these people, we must add
70 thousand who received Sinopharm vaccines
;
also with expired schemes after three weeks have elapsed from the first application.

Regarding AstraZeneca, the City began combining
second doses with Pfizer
. This possibility was enabled by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, which also indicates that the vaccination schedule with Pfizer may be done respecting the minimum interval of 8 weeks established for heterologous schedules. On Thursday, in the Buenos Aires vaccination posts,
2,850 Pfizers
were applied
as second doses of AstraZeneca.
And it would be the same this Friday.
These vaccines belong to the shipment of some 100,000 doses (a small part of the contract that Argentina signed for a total of 20 million doses) that arrived last week. The City received 7% of the shipment, 7,000 units.
This Wednesday there was another arrival of 150,000 vaccines
, which are waiting to be distributed. Although the Province announced that it will begin vaccinating children under 18 years of age without risk factors with Pfizer vaccines, approved for that purpose, for now the City maintains its decision to complete second doses and will not open enrollment for adolescents.
Another novelty is that the City added Cansino to its vaccination plan. It is a
single-dose
immunizing
agent
, the only one available of this style in the country. "Its conservation is simple, it needs to be in temperatures of 2 to 18 degrees," they explained from the ministry. Which indicates a facility for its logistics.
According to the vaccine developers, the Cansino Biologics Inc laboratory, 14 days after application it was 68.83% effective in preventing symptomatic disease and
95.47% effective in preventing severe disease
.
After 28 days, the values were 65.28% against symptomatic disease and 90.07% against severe disease.
The phase III trial was conducted with more than
40,000 volunteers
, in five countries on three continents, including Argentina.

At the moment it is being applied to the population
between 18 and 40 years old
who, for different reasons, had not received any vaccine.
In relation to
Sputnik V
, on Thursday the City applied 15,125 second doses.
In this way "narrowed" the gap within the universe of 87 thousand people who hope to complete the scheme with the vaccine from the Gamaleya Center.
As for
Sinopharm
, the Buenos Aires ministry confirmed to
Clarín
that those waiting for the second dose will begin to be vaccinated in the next few days, after an agreement reached at the last meeting of Cofesa (the Federal Health Council), of which All the
ministers of health of the provinces participate, in addition to the City and the Nation.
The following happens: at this moment there are 5.3 million vaccines of Chinese origin with no clear destination.
These could be used as third doses and in children and adolescents.
But both options are under study.
Sources of the Ministry of Health of the Nation indicated to this means that the third dose "is being evaluated all over the world";
while for the application in minors
"emergency authorization is needed
, for which the necessary information is awaited by the laboratory for the evaluation by the ANMAT to be carried out".
In other words, while awaiting these two definitions, it was approved to
release a part of that stock
so that the schemes with Sinopharm are completed throughout the country.
Thus, in the next few days they will reach the 70 thousand residents of the City.
Thursday's numbers
39,145 vaccines were available, of which 2,850 were Pfizer, which were used as the second dose of Astrazeneca.
And 20,620 from Astrazeneca to complete schematics.
Additionally,
15,125 second doses of Sputnik-V.
Regarding the vaccination plan,
3,855,123 doses
were applied
: of this total 2,190,755 residents have one dose and 1,664,368 completed the immunization with the second.
In total population numbers - taking as a parameter the total of inhabitants in the City, which is 3 million inhabitants - more than 54% completed the immunization scheme;
while 72% received at least one dose.
Thus, more than 54% of the population of the City completed the immunization scheme against COVID-19 and more than
72% of the residents received at least the first dose
, that is, 2 out of 3 porteños count 1 dose while 1 in 2 has already administered both components
