A few weeks after a serious accident with several dead children in Australia, an inflatable bouncy castle tore itself loose again in a strong wind in Spain.
An eight-year-old girl was killed.
Eight other children were injured, one seriously.
According to the authorities on Wednesday, the bouncy castle was hit by a gust of wind and thrown into the air on Tuesday evening at a Christmas market in Mislata, a suburb of Valencia.
The eight-year-old fatality suffered, among other things, severe head injuries, it said.
Another child was reportedly treated in hospital on Wednesday.
The other seven children have since been released.
The police started an investigation.
"There are no words of consolation"
"There are no words of consolation, a real tragedy," said the Mayor of Mislata Municipality, Carlos Bielsa, on Twitter.
Mislata City Hall announced three days of mourning and canceled all other celebrations, including a parade of the Three Kings scheduled for Wednesday evening.
A minute's silence should also be observed.
According to media reports, wind speeds of more than 70 km / h prevailed at the time of the accident.
The police were investigating whether the bouncy castle complied with safety regulations.
On December 16, six children were killed in a similar accident on the Australian island of Tasmania.
A gust of wind hit an inflatable bouncy castle at a school festival and, according to eyewitnesses, threw it ten meters high into the air.
The Australian police are now determining whether the playground equipment was properly attached to the ground.
