Valeo invents contactless Covid diagnostics

2021-09-07T18:29:03.095Z

The French automotive supplier presented its Covid detector in Munich, which should be approved within a year.

After the headlights, the lasers installed on vehicles to detect obstacles, the electric motors, Valeo is making a detour in health. The French automotive supplier presented its Covid detector for the first time at the Munich mobility fair on Tuesday. Tested in hospitals in France, Israel and Tunisia, the terminal equipped with sensors measures without contact the heart rate, respiratory capacity, body temperature, and even assesses the gender and age of the person ... Installed on a stool facing the small machine, the test candidate sees his face displayed on a screen. He answers two questions about a possible dry cough or a cold. Then the diagnosis starts. The temperature is displayed, the heart rate… After two minutes the result falls: negative!

This patented detector should be approved within a year and can then be deployed in emergency services, stations, airports ... Its usefulness is not in doubt.

“Do you like PCR tests?

asks Christophe Périllat, Deputy CEO of Valeo.

I don't like them! ”.

Valeo had strings to his bow to imagine this machine. The group has already invented effective filters against germs, viruses and allergens for car interiors, as well as UVC purifiers that sterilize buses. And it is at the forefront of sensors, which measure the environment of the vehicle, and now which

"ensure the well-being of passengers and detect their fatigue or their inattention"

, recalls Jacques Aschenbroich, CEO of Valeo.
