Jamie Vardy is an icon in Leicester.

In 2016, the striker, who was signed by the then fifth division club Fleetwood Town in 2012, sensationally shot Leicester City to the Premier League title, while Vardy was the top scorer in the preseason.

In the first four games of the current season, Vardy scored five times, then the 33-year-old injured his calf slightly.

Without the top striker, the Foxes recently lost goalless to West Ham.

Vardy celebrated his quick comeback against Arsenal - and the quick goal comeback was also not long in coming: In the 60th minute, Brendan Rodgers replaced the recovered striker for Dennis Praet.

In the 80th minute Youri Tielemans played a through pass to Cengiz Ünder.

The hurried Granit Xhaka and Gabriel chipped into the middle - and Vardy scored the 1-0 (0-0) winning goal from six meters with a diving header.

For Vardy it was the eleventh goal in the twelfth game against the Gunners.

For a long time there was no sign of victory for Leicester: Up until Vardy's substitution, only James Maddison had fired shots, but always missed the goal from 25, 40 and even 50 meters.

Leicester was deep and found no solutions against Arsenal's defensive either through counterattacks or from their own possession.

Arsenal are weakening after a strong start

Instead, Mikel Arteta's team created scenes in the penalty area: Alexandre Lacazette headed a Dani Ceballos corner into the far corner early on, but since Xhaka irritated goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel while standing offside, the goal did not count (4th minute).

At the next opportunity to head the ball, Lacazette failed himself when he steered a cross from Kieran Tierney with his forehead past the right post instead of into the net a few meters from the goal.

After the break, Arsenal playfully lost the thread - and David Luiz: The central defender had to leave the pitch. Ex-DFB international Shkodran Mustafi came in for him (49th).

Nevertheless, the Gunners also had the next good chance, after a cross from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin pulled his volley attempt from twelve meters centrally on Schmeichel (68th).

Then Vardy struck - and still had the chance to score his second goal in stoppage time, Leno headed the ball to the corner (90 + 3).

While Arsenal have to make do with a midfield position in the table, Leicester City can no longer be displaced from fourth place on matchday six.

With twelve points, the club is just one point behind leaders Everton FC.
