Al-Hasakah-SANA
The book fair held by the Arab Writers Union branch and the Directorate of Culture at the Arab Cultural Center in the city of Hasaka witnessed a great turnout by those wishing to purchase books with a variety of titles and benefit from the symbolic selling price.
Hundreds of books on different topics, ranging from literature, such as poetry, story, novel, history, cinema, and critical studies, from the publications of the Arab Writers Union and for the 2015 and prior editions, were offered at a symbolic and encouraging price, with an amount of 200 Syrian pounds per book.
Head of the Writers Union Branch Ibrahim Khalaf explained to SANA reporter that the exhibition is an invitation to read and encourage citizens to buy books in light of the widespread use of the Internet and reading e-books to gain knowledge due to the lack of some book titles in libraries and the high prices of them.
Khalaf pointed out that the exhibition continues, and after the end of its period in the Arab Cultural Center in the city of Hasaka, it will be transferred, in cooperation with the Euphrates University branch, to the university colleges in the province to provide an opportunity for university youth to view the contents of the exhibition and purchase their needs of various books.
The Director of Culture, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed, pointed out that the exhibition and its various titles are an opportunity for lovers of reading and students of knowledge to acquire what is useful to them, as it comes within the framework of the directorate’s continuous interest in holding exhibitions that provide as much as possible the citizens’ need for reading.
The heritage researcher Ahmed Al-Hussein considered that the exhibition is an invitation to return to the good companion, which is the paper book that we are eager to read in the era of globalization and electronic knowledge because it is the knowledge vessel in light of the hijacking of modern technologies for the young generation and its distance from deep reading and diverse knowledge.
The university student, Rawaa Al-Salem, indicated the importance of holding the exhibition at encouraging prices in light of the current living conditions to help those who love to read to acquire their need of books, calling for the establishment of specialized exhibitions that provide references of interest to university students in Al-Hasakah Governorate.
