Victims of the Las Vegas massacre will receive $ 800 million in compensation

A U.S. court has agreed to a $ 800 million compensation settlement for victims of the Las Vegas massacre three years ago.
58 people were killed and more than 800 were injured when Stephen Paddock spray-painted a crowd of thousands of spectators at a nearby music festival through his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
He fired more than a thousand bullets before committing suicide to prevent police from arresting him.
His motive has not been revealed to date.
MGM's international resort company, which owns the hotel, will pay $ 49 million in cash and the remaining amount will come from the insurance companies.
The court order said there was "almost unanimous participation in the settlement" by thousands of potential plaintiffs, including victims and their families.

MGM welcomed the decision and said they hope it will bring families, victims and the community closer to "closing the circle," especially since it was given the day before the third anniversary of the deadliest shooting spree in U.S. history.
An earlier statement issued on behalf of the company stated that the arrangement did not constitute an admission of its criminal liability.
The company was sued for negligence that allowed Paddock to enter his hotel room with a large amount of weapons and ammunition, without anyone noticing.
MGM sued the victims in 2018 in an attempt to avoid paying compensation, but the outline for the settlement was announced last October.
The company said at the time that "a lengthy legal proceeding around these matters is not in anyone's interest."
