Three years after the Las Vegas massacre, in which 58 people were killed by a shooter from a hotel room, the victims and their families have been awarded $ 800 million in compensation.

According to the US media, a court confirmed a corresponding settlement.

The amount will be divided among more than 4,000 plaintiffs.

Who would receive how much money would still have to be determined by two retired judges, who both sides agreed to.

On October 1, 2017, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd of a music festival from his hotel room on the 32nd floor.

58 people were killed and around 800 injured.

According to the police, Paddock subsequently killed himself.

The act was the worst mass murder in the United States in recent years.

The perpetrator had succeeded in bringing several weapons and ammunition into two rented rooms in the hotel that were next to each other.

Plaintiffs were able to receive money before the end of the year

The class action lawsuit was directed against the owner of the hotel, MGM Resorts International.

Only after months of negotiations did all sides agree on the settlement, the plaintiff's lawyer, Robert Eglet, told CNN.

Appeal is possible within the next 30 days.

But he is confident that the plaintiffs will be paid before the end of the year.

According to the information, MGM takes over the smaller share of 49 million dollars, the rest comes from insurers.
