Victory in the top game against Olympique Lyon: Joker Mauro Icardi lets PSG cheer in stoppage time

Paris' attacking star ensemble around Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar sprayed little magic against Olympique Lyon. The top game in the French league was decided by someone else: Mauro Icardi.

Paris Saint-Germain celebrated a late 2-1 (0-0) home success in the top game of the French league against Olympique Lyon.

Lucas Paquetá took the lead for the guests (54th), Neymar equalized with a converted penalty (66th).

Joker Mauro Icardi (90th + 3) caused the late Parisian jubilation.

As expected, PSG were more active, Lyon relied on quick, direct attacks and had their first big chance with a kick from Xherdan Shaqiri in the 19th minute.

On the other hand, Messi was twice very close to his first goal of the season: After a heel trick by Neymar, he only had Anthony Lopes in front of him, but failed because of his foot defense (33rd).

Three minutes later, Messi circled a free kick exactly at the right cross post.

After the break, last year’s fourth led by Jérôme Boateng was significantly lower, which made the lead all the more surprising.

Lucas Paquetá refined a flat flank with a direct decrease in the short corner (54th).

Messi remains inconspicuous, Icardi redeems PSG

While Messi continued to wait for his own goal, the likewise hapless Neymar scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot.

He was the beneficiary of an uncontrolled foul by 18-year-old defender Malo Gusto that led to the penalty (66th).

Messi's working day at Parc des Princes ended after 77 minutes, with ex-Dortmund Achraf Hakimi coming for him.

Attacker Icardi replaced Angel Di Maria.

The associated switch to a three-way chain actually brought PSG the success they had hoped for.

The decisive scene was initiated by Mbappé on the right wing.

Icardi headed his flank into the left corner (90 + 3).

PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino's team won all six league games and continues to lead the table ahead of Olympique Marseille and RC Lens.
