According to Spanish authorities, a false bomb threat led to the dispatch of an F18 to escort the EasyJet plane to its landing.

The passengers of EasyJet flight EZY8303 were surprised to end their journey escorted by a Spanish fighter plane on Sunday July 3.

The A-319, with a capacity of 120 to 150 passengers, flew from Gatwick airport in London to Menorca, an island in the Balearic Islands.

Among the passengers: an 18-year-old young man accompanied by five friends.

According to the police, the teenager made a false bomb threat on social media, prompting the arrival of an F 18.

In amateur videos broadcast on social networks, we see the fighter plane flying at the level of the aircraft's windows, under the dumbfounded eyes of the passengers, intrigued and worried.

“Why is he doing this?

Does he just want to show off,” a female passenger asks in one of the videos as the military plane performs up and down motions with its wings – a gesture known in aviation to indicate to the pilot to follow him.

According to the authorities, the plane then landed in a secure location.

Passengers were disembarked one by one to have their luggage inspected by dogs and deminers.

The teenager meanwhile spent the night in prison and is due to appear in court soon.
