An illegal rave party turned into a violent clash between revelers and gendarmes, on the night from Friday to Saturday in Redon, in Ille-et-Vilaine.
The violence lasted nearly seven hours.
Five gendarmes were injured, two of whom were evacuated to Redon hospital, two participants were also affected including a 22-year-old who lost a hand.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Rennes prosecutor's office.
Despite an order from the prefect banning any festive musical gathering, nearly 1,500 people were present. Calls to pay tribute to Steve Maia Caniço, a young Nantes man who fell in the Loire during the intervention of the police forces two years ago, had been launched in recent days.
This gathering comes after new elements concerning the investigation into the disappearance of Steve Maia Caniço. Friday, the public prosecutor of Rennes Philippe Astruc had announced that, according to the investigation, the young man had fallen in the Loire “in the time of the intervention of the police” to disperse the gathering in which the young man participated. Nearly 400 gendarmes were mobilized. Tensions eased in the morning, but evacuation operations are still underway as revelers have taken possession of the premises.
