After months of deprivation of dancing and social contacts, Alsatians are returning to festive Sunday afternoons for seniors

“The pleasure of dancing and being in a group is wonderful!

Exclaims Jean-Pierre, 74 years old and his eyes shining from having trod the floor of the Diemeringen hall all afternoon, to a frenzied accordion tune.

After more than a year and a half of hiatus, tea dancing has resumed.

And this town in the Bas-Rhin comes back to life with small slippery steps and retro choreography, to the delight of a public weaned from celebration by the Covid-19.

No masks, but a pass

For months and months that the cultural center of this Alsatian village located a stone's throw from the Moselle, had not welcomed retirees alert and fond of these dancing afternoons.

But on this sunny Sunday in October, between 200 and 300 people made the trip, for an entry fee of eight euros and, of course, the presentation of the now essential health pass.

The mask, on the other hand, is not required.

Even the music groups that animate these teas feel revived and are relieved.
