About fifty French trawlers gathered near the port of Saint-Hélier, in Jersey, to demand better access to

About fifty French fishermen converged on Saint-Hélier, the capital of the island of Jersey.

A peaceful and unblocked rally to denounce the fishing restrictions imposed by this dependence on the British Crown since Brexit.

On the sidelines of this mobilization, a French boat was seen hitting a British boat, according to the English media Sky News.

If the island is not attached to the government of Boris Johnson, nor a member of the United Kingdom, it is still governed by the diplomacy of London. And since Brexit, the situation of French sailors has deteriorated considerably. Formerly free to fish in Jersey waters, they must now obtain a specific license to work there. These restrictions weigh all the more heavily on French fishing, as a quarter of the country's catches come from British waters.

According to the French Ministry of the Sea, only 41 French vessels out of the 344 which issued a request are now authorized to fish in Jersey waters.

An authorization subject to new fishing restrictions considered "null and void" by Paris, which also denounces measures "which have not been concerted, discussed or notified before".

Symbol of the intensification of tensions between London and Paris: the sending of two British patrol ships off Jersey to monitor the activities of French boats mobilized in the port.

France has responded by sending two patrol boats and threatens to cut off access to electricity on the island.
