How can you get even more girls interested in a career in football? Chancellor Scholz wants to send a political signal when it comes to payment, DFB President Neuendorf argues differently.

During a visit to the new DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) reiterated his call for equal bonuses for the men's and women's national teams.

It's about the question: How can you get more girls interested in football?

And the bonuses play a role here," said the 64-year-old during his visit to the German Football Association (DFB).

'My position is known.

From my point of view, this is something political and something different than salary negotiations, "said Scholz.

The debate about equal pay at the DFB had picked up speed in the course of the success of the women's national team at the European Championship.

“It's 2022. Women and men should be paid equally.

That also applies to sport, especially for national teams," Scholz tweeted during the group phase.

He then attended the European Championship final against England.

The DFB women would have received a bonus of 60,000 euros per player for the European title, but the men would have received 400,000 euros per person last year.

He was "glad that the idea was openly accepted," said the SPD politician.

Neuendorf emphasizes that the premiums are market-oriented

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf was ready to talk.

"I'm ready to discuss in our committees whether our bonus system is still up-to-date or whether it should be adjusted," said the 61-year-old.

He also wants to "continue to talk" to politicians on this subject.

However, Neuendorf also qualified: “We define our bonuses based on the economic success of a competition.

We're not lagging behind in Europe." He wants to make representations to the chancellery in the coming month and "deepen" the exchange.

It was "great that there is the first meeting," said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg in ZDF's "Aktuelle Sportstudio" on Saturday.

In principle, there is nothing to be said against the same title bonuses, said Voss-Tecklenburg - but not at the gigantic level of the men.

But "a little less for the men, a little more for the women," emphasized the national coach.
