For days, members of the supervisory board struggled with VW boss Herbert Diess about the future appointment of the company's executive board.

Several personnel raids are now planned.

Hildegard Wortmann, 55, previously Head of Sales and Marketing at the premium subsidiary Audi, is to move into the Volkswagen Group's Board of Management.

The post will be newly created, previously Group boss Diess was in charge of sales.

Like Diess, Wortmann originally comes from BMW.

There she played a leading role in building up the BMW i electric brand.

The business economist started her career at Unilever, and later she was Marketing Director at the Calvin Klein fashion brand.

On Thursday, the VW supervisory board should decide on these and other personal details.

The conversion is a compromise between Diess and the works council, which would have liked to replace the CEO.

This should therefore remain at the top of VW, but receive support from other top managers.

Diess is also likely to hand over responsibility for business in China.

In the future, the previous head of the VW brand, Ralf Brandstätter, is to become a board member for China.

This position has been vacant since the previous top manager in China, Jochem Heizmann, retired in early 2019.

A successor to Brandstätter's previous role has also already been found: Thomas Schäfer, the previous boss of the Czech subsidiary brand Skoda, is to become the head of the core VW brand.

The former Daimler manager only moved to the top of Skoda in August 2020.

As has already been announced, the previous chief legal officer Manfred Döss is also to become a member of the group's board of directors.

There he will in all likelihood inherit the outgoing legal director Hiltrud Werner.

Werner did a lot as an internal cleaner after the diesel scandal.

A new IT department is to be created

In addition, there will probably be a newly created IT department on the board: the former Deutsche Börse manager Hauke Stars will take over.

Her appointment has been planned for some time, but was delayed by the recent power struggle.

All personal details are still subject to approval by the Supervisory Board.

However, it is very likely that the compromise will actually be reached.

Previously, plans for a radical downsizing had led to a leadership dispute that lasted for weeks.

The works council then internally urged CEO Diess to be replaced.

The owner families Porsche and Piëch, however, remained loyal to Diess.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board Hans Dieter Pötsch mediated between the divided centers of power.
