The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has received a grant of more than $76 million from the Jockey Club Charities Trust Fund to promote the "Jockey Club Kindergarten Digital Ability Enhancement Project".
The plan is divided into two stages, including subsidizing schools to purchase electronic digital equipment and computer software; improving network equipment; providing related technical support and providing teacher training to help kindergartens make good use of electronic digital and multimedia, and establish new interactive models.
The plan is expected to cover more than 70% of the kindergartens under the kindergarten education plan in Hong Kong.
Participating schools have been funded to purchase electronic and digital equipment, computer software, and network improvements.

The project is carried out through the Early Childhood Education Centre under the Department of Child Care, Elderly and Social Services of Sha Tin College of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE).
Project Director and Dean of the Department of Child Care, Elderly and Social Services at IVE (Sha Tin), Tang Shaufen, said that in the past, many kindergartens had unstable digital networks and lacked or outdated electronic equipment. Some teachers had to bring their own electronic equipment when working. Provide comprehensive support for kindergarten's electronic equipment, network support, and teachers' professional level to help schools carry out large-scale reforms in information technology to keep pace with the times.
Cheng Xiaoping, the project coordinator and senior lecturer at the IVE (Shatin) Early Childhood Education Centre, also pointed out that if kindergartens can upgrade the IT software and hardware equipment, they need to be suspended again for any reason in the future, and related equipment and professional skills can also be applied immediately.
From October last year to July this year, the first phase of the project supported a total of 260 kindergartens to purchase electronic and digital equipment, and opened professional training to all kindergarten teachers to sign up. So far, more than 4,500 kindergarten teachers, that is, more than 30% of the kindergarten teachers in Hong Kong, have participated in the training.
As for the second phase of the project, it is expected that an additional 300 kindergartens will receive electronic equipment and network support. IVE will establish a resource sharing platform for the industry, provide reference resources and practical cases for 560 kindergartens, and have professional teachers with different themes. The training will benefit more than 8,200 teachers.
