An exhibition homage to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo, the wife of the famous shoemaker of the divas Salvatore who, widowed at a very young age, took over the reins of the famous maison of which she led from 1960 until her death in 2018. But also an exhibition that he also wants to make known the stories of other women who, between the end of the fifties and the early sixties, have combined the affirmation of their personality with family affections.
'Women in balance', this is the title of the exhibition, curated by Stefania Ricci, hosted from today to 18 April 2023 at Palazzo Spini Feroni, headquarters of Ferragamo and of the museum of the maison created by the will of Wanda.
The exhibition, at the presentation of which Stefania Sandrelli was also the godmother, looks like a domestic space of a bourgeois family of that era, curated by the set designer Maurizio Balò, except for the introductory room which reproduces Wanda's office Ferragamo, overlooking Piazza Santa Trinita.
There are the family photos, the ancient inkwell, the lens, the document holders, and then the photographic shots in which Wanda Ferragamo is portrayed with Pope John Paul II or Queen Elizabeth and also the shoe that Salvatore made for her in 1940, at the time of their engagement.
The second section documents, through video, the Italian family between 1955 and 1965, while the third is dedicated to the entry of women into the world of work: set in the library of a home, it celebrates various professions.
The artist's work is then told through the works of Giosetta Fioroni and also the housework with design tools such as the carpet beater (1960) and the garbage lifter with handle (1957) in colored plastic by Gino Colombini for Kartell, the electric brushes by Giuseppe De Goetzen for Elchim (1954), the Spatler vacuum cleaner by Achille Castiglioni for Rem (1956).
