Members of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain and the Military Emergency Unit take very hot samples of lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma, which amount to 1,500 degrees Celsius.
Since the beginning of the eruption on September 19, it is estimated that the lava has washed away at least 800 hectares of land, has also destroyed some 2,000 buildings, as well as banana crops and has evacuated more than 6,000 people.
