Deep "Hendrik II" disappears and makes way for a sunny weekend: After the first big autumn storm, the weather in Germany has calmed down again in many regions.

In Lower Saxony and Bremen, some gale-force gusts raged again on Friday.

The East Frisian Islands and the coast in particular continued to feel the storm.

On Spiekeroog, the German Weather Service (DWD) recorded a gust of wind force 11 at 104 kilometers per hour until the early afternoon.

Police stations and fire brigades in the country did not report any major operations.

On Thursday, however, the storm had caused accidents and injuries in many places - for example from falling trees or breaking branches.

At Templin in Brandenburg, a train driver was killed by a falling branch on a railway line.

Telephone and power lines were damaged, train connections were interrupted, and there was a power cut in several regions of Germany.

In many cities such as Rostock, Leipzig and Osnabrück, zoos and other facilities have been closed, partly because of the old and tall trees.

Traffic is normalizing

On Friday, normal conditions returned to normal on the streets and in local public transport.

In any case, only a few streets were closed "in the area" during the storm, said a spokeswoman for the ADAC traffic club.

Occasionally trucks overturned - for example on the A9 and A14.

Despite the all-clear, caution is still required, because fallen trees, broken branches and bricks are still a danger. In addition, hidden damage to trees could be dangerous, warned the Weißenfels city administration in Saxony-Anhalt, among others.

At Deutsche Bahn, trains in the country were largely running according to plan.

"Rail traffic is normalizing nationwide," it said on the website.

The storm had meanwhile led to the cessation of regional rail traffic in southeast Germany on Thursday.

Long-distance traffic continued under difficult conditions.

Particularly strong gusts in central Germany

The first autumn storm swept through the country, as predicted by the DWD - with a special feature: What is unusual about this storm is that the strongest gusts occurred over central Germany.

There were gale-force gusts down to the lowlands, said Markus Übel from the DWD of the German Press Agency.

At the weekend, the situation will calm down, as the weather service announced on Friday.

The high »Quedlinburga« even ensures sunshine - especially on Sundays.

The temperatures then move between 11 and 15 degrees.

At night it cools down properly, at night on Sunday and Monday the temperature even drops slightly into the frost range.

The coming week will continue quietly - even if Hoch »Quedlinburga« says goodbye to Germany.
