The next major construction site in Weilheim's city center: Today the work of several weeks for the new central city bus stop at Unteren Graben begins.

However, the road should remain passable in both directions.

Weilheim

- The first preliminary work has already been done.

Road construction work on Unteren Graben will begin today, Monday, with the renovation of the traffic island on Fischergasse.

Work on the new bus bay on the east side of the Untere Graben will then start on October 18, as reported by the Weilheim municipal utility;

they are supposed to last until November 5th.

Finally, from November 8th to 26th, the new bus bay will be built on the west side.

There should only be "minor disabilities"

According to the municipal company, both construction sites will protrude about one meter into the roadway, "so there will be small obstacles".

The lower ditch, however, remains "continuously passable in both directions during the entire construction project".

Only the lane to turn into Lohgasse will be "temporarily drawn in", since the regional bus stops will remain in the area of the construction sites.

The reason for the renovation is the new “City Bus 2022” concept: from January, the Stadtwerke will take over the Weilheim city bus.

Among other things, with higher frequency, optimized routes and battery-electric midibuses instead of the current diesel buses, the offer should be “more attractive, modern, environmentally friendly” and be used by more passengers, according to the company.

The stop at the old town center will soon be obsolete

The central stop at Herzog-Albrecht-Platz will be canceled on December 31st.

Because it is located in the Altstadtcenter underground car park, it can "no longer serve as a rendezvous place for the new 11-ton buses," explains Stadtwerke boss Peter Müller.

Also, the future frequency of 112 bus movements a day would not be acceptable there and the extra loop would be too time-consuming.

Hence the expansion of the stops at Unteren Graben.

In future, all four city bus routes will stop on the west side.

"We are expanding the bus stops to be handicapped accessible, they will receive digital passenger information systems and bus shelters," said Müller.

In addition to the city buses, the regional buses also stop there.

Municipal utilities answer questions

The municipal utilities ask for your understanding for "temporary obstructions to traffic" during the renovation: "Of course, we try to keep these as low as possible, they cannot be avoided completely." Mail tsc@stawm.de or phone 0881 / 9420-800.
