The city council's building committee was already aware that there were plans for a new building for the area behind the post office building in Weilheim.

However, the planning application that has now been submitted surprised everyone.

And was unanimously rejected.

Weilheim

- These are idiosyncratic plans that were submitted to the town hall shortly before Christmas - "without prior agreement", as building administration manager Manfred Stork emphasized in the building committee last Tuesday: The existing building at Bahnhofplatz 4, located behind the post office, is to be closed in the northern third by two Full storeys are raised.

There would be four “small apartments” on the newly designed first floor and three more on the second floor – mostly between 23 and 25 square meters in size.

The developer wants to access these seven apartments exclusively via a spiral staircase on the north side of the house.

The only access would be a spiral staircase

"I don't even know how people are supposed to move in there," Stork commented on these plans for the building, the ground floor of which is currently empty.

There used to be a "Schlecker" drugstore there, most recently a restaurant.

In terms of design, too, the submitted plans are out of the question: Up until now, there has been a steep gable roof with two levels above one full floor of the house;

now a higher cube “almost with a flat roof” would be planned in the northern part.

That would "adversely change the appearance and proportions of the building," according to the city planning department.

City council should now enact a ban on changes

New construction on this area is possible, but the proposal presented "in no way", so Mayor Markus Loth (BfW) summarized the matter - and was in agreement with all committee members.

Due to a building request for the neighboring property south of Bahnhofallee, the city council decided in November to draw up a development plan for the square (we reported).

This also includes the area with the post office building.

The building committee spoke unanimously in favor of issuing a ban on changes to the development plan area for the time being.

The city council has to decide on this at its meeting on January 27th.

The committee unanimously rejected the planning application for the building behind the post office.

ÖDP representative Gerd Ratter wanted to know whether there was a need for such mini-apartments in Weilheim, as the developer is planning.

"The need is definitely there," Stork replied, referring, for example, to young teachers who are looking for a place to stay for a year of traineeship.
