Answering the census questions in Argentina is mandatory: if you don't, or if you lie in your answers, you can receive a fine.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean you can't leave the house at any time of the day.

This Wednesday, May 18, will be Census Day in Argentina, in which the State will collect updated information on more than 45 million inhabitants and more than 15 million homes.

On this occasion, and for the first time, the census works in the country with a mixed modality: you can complete it online and on Census Day simply deliver the proof of the procedure you did to the census taker who comes to your home or answer the questions at the time what's up

Do I have to stay home?

Census Day is a national holiday precisely so that people can stay in the places where they usually live and welcome the census takers who will make their journey starting at 8:00 am local time.

That day, in addition, until 8 pm local time, no shows or public gatherings can be held either outdoors or indoors.

This includes, among other events, sports competitions, movie showings in theaters, and theater performances.

Also, all food and beverage businesses have to be closed until that time.

The Government recommends that if you are going to leave your home for any reason, you make sure someone is there to answer questions.

If you completed the digital census, you can leave that person with the proof of completion of the process so that they can give it to the census takers.

If you are traveling that day, for example, they suggest that you answer the digital census and leave the receipt with a neighbor who can deliver it for you.

Remember that the digital census is enabled from March 16 and you can complete it until May 18 at 8:00 am

If you did not complete the digital census and you directly wait for the census taker to arrive, you will not have any problem, since that is an option but it is not mandatory.

Fine in case of not answering or lying in the census in Argentina

The fines range between $1,076.36 and $106,799.35, according to an official resolution from February 2022.

The amounts to be paid, according to the legislation, are adjusted every six months.
