While prices for sunflower oil are exploding: numerous groceries are much cheaper than last year

Food prices are rising, especially sunflower oil and flour have become very expensive.

However, other products are priced in a different direction.

Berlin - The news reached the world from Great Britain that the popular national dish, fish and chips, will soon hardly be affordable for normal consumers.

Some British takeaways even fear they may have to shut down completely as food and energy prices soar.

Sunflower oil, flour, potatoes and fish are primarily needed for fish and chips.

All rare or very expensive products since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

But the price increase is not only noticeable at British fish and chip stands, but also in German supermarkets.

However, the fruit and vegetable department does not appear to have been affected, at least in part, by inflation.

Nowadays, a trip to the fruit and vegetable departments of Edeka, Rewe, Lidl and Co. is doubly worthwhile.

On the one hand, the fruits are of course good for your health and also delicious.

On the other hand, some of them have even become cheaper.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, cauliflower, carrots and peppers, for example, are between 10 and 23 percent cheaper than in 2021. The situation is similar for apples, peaches and cherries.

The experts see reasons for this in the low demand or overproduction of the goods.

Supermarket: Alternatives to sunflower oil are possible

There have already been real arguments about the liquid gold in some German supermarkets.

This is not necessary at all.

Plant-based alternatives can be used instead of sunflower oil.

Speaking of plant-based: cauliflower, carrots and peppers can be used to conjure up delicious dishes that are also healthy without any oil or flour.

Apples, peaches and cherries are also ideal for tasty dessert creations or as a snack between meals.
