Van Gaal's assistant is said to be former world-class defender Danny Blind.

The 59-year-old was an assistant coach for the Dutch national team from 2012 to 2015, after which he worked as head coach for two years.

Henk Fraser, whom van Gaal knows from his time as an active professional, will also assist.

Frans Hoek, who had already worked with van Gaal at FC Bayern, is under discussion as goalkeeping coach.

This is the third time that Louis van Gaal has signed on as coach of the Dutch national team

For van Gaal it would be the third engagement as national coach of the Netherlands *.

The 69-year-old was in office between 2000 and 2002 and from 2012 to 2014.

In 2014 he led Oranje to third place at the World Cup in Brazil.

From 2009 to 2011 van Gaal was the coach of FC Bayern *.

In his first season he won the double of the championship and the DFB Cup with the record champions.
