Wimbledon 2022: ailing Nick Kyrgios is struggling to reach the quarterfinals

Nick Kyrgios took the next hurdle two days after the scandalous match against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and entered the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

The Australian won - this time without escapades - against Brandon Nakashima (USA) 4: 6, 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 2), 3: 6, 6: 2.

In the next round on Wednesday, the 27-year-old will meet Chilean Cristian Garin, who beat Alex de Minaur (Australia) after 4:34 hours 2: 6, 5: 7, 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4, 7:6 (10:6) prevailed.

Kyrgios was fined $4,000 after several rude freaks in the match against Tsitsipas, his frustrated opponent, who felt provoked by Kyrgios, had to pay $10,000 for thrashing the ball into the stands.

In the press conferences after the match, the dispute between the players continued.

Pain in right shoulder

Kyrgios, who had his right shoulder treated in Monday's match, is in the quarterfinals of the world's most important tennis tournament for the second time in his career.

In 2014 he had his breakthrough as a teenager when he beat Rafael Nadal (Spain) in the Wimbledon round of 16.

American seeded number 11 Taylor Fritz also reached the top eight for the first time.

The 24-year-old gave the Australian qualifier Jason Kubler no chance at 6: 3, 6: 1, 6: 4.

Fritz has not yet given a sentence and is now dealing with co-favorite Nadal or Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.

Krawietz/Mies in the quarterfinals for the first time

The German doubles Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies made it into the quarterfinals for the first time at Wimbledon.

The duo beat Britain's Jonny O'Mara and Ken Skupski 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 6-4.

The two-time French Open winners now meet second-seeded Croatian doubles Mate Pavić and Nikola Mektić in the quarterfinals.

Krawietz, 30, and Mies, 31, had previously not progressed past the third round at Wimbledon.

In the doubles and mixed competitions, all other German tennis professionals have already been eliminated.
